Allan hobley
Allan Hobley is the stud principal of Wiringa Park Poll Merino Stud, bringing decades of practical farming and sheep breeding experience to the operation. Based at Nyabing in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, Allan has played a central role in developing Wiringa Park into a respected Poll Merino enterprise recognised for productive, commercially relevant genetics.
With a lifelong connection to agriculture and a strong understanding of the needs of commercial producers, Allan established the Poll Merino Stud in 2008 with a focus on breeding sheep that combine elite wool quality, fertility, structural soundness and growth performance. His philosophy centres on breeding functional sheep that perform reliably in real-world farming systems and deliver long-term profitability for clients.
Allan’s approach combines traditional stockmanship with modern breeding technologies, including performance recording, ASBVs and DNA-backed selection. Under his leadership, Wiringa Park has continued to build a reputation for consistent, adaptable sheep suited to a broad range of environments across Australia.
Allan is passionate about the future of the Australian sheep industry. He served on the committee of the Stud Merino Breeders Association of WA for around a decade. He was the President of the Great Southern Merino Sheep breeders Association from 2017-2019. In March 2021 he was elected President of the Stud Merino Breeders Association of WA representing stud breeders across the state and promoting education, technology adoption and industry development. He completed a two-year term. Through leadership roles Allan has advocated for genetic improvement in merino sheep, producer education and industry seminars, adoption of technology and management systems and addressing industry issues.
Allan remains hands-on in all aspects of the breeding program, with a strong emphasis on integrity, continual improvement and producing genetics backed by proven performance.
Stud Principal
Greg Hobley plays a key role in the Wiringa Park mixed farming enterprise, overseeing the grain production side of the operation across the family’s broadacre cropping program. With a strong focus on productivity, sustainability and long-term farm performance, Greg manages the cropping enterprise spanning barley, canola, lupins, beans and vetch.
As part of a diversified farming business, Greg strongly values the balance between livestock and cropping and understands the important role each plays in the overall success of the enterprise. He sees significant benefit in sheep and grain production working side by side — improving flexibility, supporting pasture and soil management, and strengthening the long-term resilience of the farming system.
Grain Production Managergreg hobley
Mitchell works closely with the top end of our breeeding program, providing advice on which sires to retain and which sires to use. Mitch plays an important role in preparing for our ram sale, including cataloguing and sorting the lots. He is a key point of contact for any stud sire enquiries. Mitch manages out ET (embryo transfer) joinings and is happy to assist with commercial classing.

Phillip russell
Stud ClasserPhillip is our stud classer, responsible for assessing and classing our stud stock throughout the breeding program. He evaluates sheep on type, structure, wool and overall breeding quality, helping identify the animals best suited to retain within the stud. Phil works closely with the team to ensure our sheep are consistently classed to a high standard and that the right genetics are being selected for the future. He has been part of the Wiringa Park team for over 40 years, supporting our merino enterprise.

Eastern States Representatives/Stud ConsultantsJosh and Paul have been engaged and hands on during the joining process for the 2026 drop of stud lambs. They were both in Nyabing for a week in December 2025 gaining an understanding of how the engine room works here at Wiringa Park. They both offer a different perspective and have been involved with the finalisation of our classing of ewe hoggets, AI and ET joining.
